Gelatiny Cube

Level Design • Game Design • Programming

4 weeks — Solo project

A first-person puzzle platformer where players navigate a gelatinous cube, overcoming environmental hazards and traversal challenges to reach the exit.

Contributions

  • Designed and built the game's levels

  • Created traversal and puzzle encounters

  • Iterated on player flow and pacing

  • Scripted gameplay interactions in Unity

  • Conducted playtesting and level iteration

Goal

Create a level-driven experience that gradually teaches mechanics while encouraging exploration, problem-solving, and mastery of movement.

Design

Player Guidance

Levels were designed to naturally guide players through the environment using landmarks, sightlines, and environmental composition rather than explicit instructions.

Puzzle Progression

Challenges were introduced gradually, allowing players to learn mechanics before combining them into more complex scenarios later in the experience.

Pacing & Flow

The level structure alternates between traversal, puzzle-solving, and moments of discovery to maintain engagement and create a steady sense of progression.

Learnings

Strengthened my understanding of player guidance and environmental communication.

Improved my ability to iterate on level layouts through playtesting and observation.

Learned how pacing, challenge progression, and spatial design work together to shape the player experience.
